Jesse Louis Ackart

Etta was born on August 05, 1881 in Rolla, Dent County, Missouri to James Alexander Ketchum and Mary Jane Brown, the 5th out of 10 children. She married Jesse Louis Ackart on March 20, 1904 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Etta and Jesse had seven children: Myrtle, Jennie, Lorena, James, Archie, Doris, and Dorothy.

Etta passed from this life on June 04, 1965 in Pendleton, Umatilla County, Oregon and Jesse passed on September 03, 1945 in Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington. They are buried in Milton-Freewater, Umatilla County, Oregon

The following story was submitted to me by Bertha Mohr (granddaughter of Etta and Jesse) "way back when":

We really don't know that much about the Ketchums, my mother was the oldest surviving child and she knew very little. My Aunt Dorothy remembers even less. So here is a little history.

In about 1927-1930 some ministers were holding meetings in Ok City, and my grandparetns Jesse and Etta Ketchum Ackart joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church. The way I understand it both sides of the family tried to talk them out of this religion and go back to the Baptist Church, I believe that was the church they all went to if they went at all. Anyway after a few years the Ackarts moved to Gentry, Arkansas where there was a Christian school for the children, thus furthur severing ties with the family. By this time both the Ackart parents had passed away and James A also. My grandmother Etta I don't believe ever saw her mother again. In 1937 everyone moved out to Freewater, Oregon. Two of the Ketchum sisters Carrie and Anna Mary kept in touch with Etta but only one of the Ackart brothers kept in touch and even came out to see them in Oregon. I have a large doily that Anna Mary made for Etta many years ago. It is full of holes but my mother and I have made quite a few doilies from the pattern. Aunt Dorothy remembers just one time visiting the Grandparent Ketchums and she was a small child, everyone had to be real quiet as any noise would upset Grandpa James A. Carrie their youngest child stayed at home and took care of them until they passed away. She never married but did have a child Harold who died very young. Carrie worked for a very up and coming store in Ok City, Katz I believe the name was. Carrie also help her sister Dora raise her two grandaughters who are still living in Ok City. Katie Ezzell and Sharon who is married to Larry Hardin. I have only been back to Ok once and that was in 1970. The only family I saw was Aunt Carrie, for some reason my father only wanted to stay 1 1/2 days there.
