Does Your Family Have a Family Song?

Many lines of my family have the usual family crests, motto, and tartans and up to now I have never come across a song especially written for a family. I have been researching the Evans/Blackburn lines for inclusion in the DAR.  Becoming a member of the DAR is my project for this year and some of the "proof" of relationships needed has caused me to exhaust all sources available.

Author J. Montgomery Seaver wrote "The Evans Genealogy" published  in 1929 so it is no longer governed by copyright laws and can be downloaded on the Archive.org website.

 It was an interesting read and told the history of the Evans family from ancient times in Britain until the time the book was written. The book was very interesting even though it wasn't a direct line to me after the Evans family left Britain.

The song was so well-written and instilled a great sense of family pride,  I just had to update it using the names of my ancestors.  So here is my updated version of the "Battle Hymn of the Evans"

BATTLE HYMN OF EVANS
(Tune: "Battle Hymn of  the Republic"
The ancient clan of Evans raised their standards to the sky;
They held their name in honor and their aims were ever high;
They always did their duty and were not afraid to die.
The clan goes marching on!
                          Chorus:  Glory to the tribe of Evans!
                                       Glory to the name of Evans!
                                       "Pro Patria" our grand old family!
                                        The clan goes marching on!
The ancient sires of Evans Fam'ly lived and died in Wales;
Where English tongue is spoken now the Evans name prevails;
How could the nations but advance when Evans never fails.
The Clan goes marching on!
Samuel, Charles, and John Henry were the fathers of our clan;
Posterity of Charles and John never ran;
Charles was quite virile, John was a sturdy man.
The clan goes marching on!

Charles Evans was the Justice who was with honor blest;
In covered wagon John led his comrades to the west.
The Evans all are loyal and they always do their best.
The Clan goes marching on!

There's something strong and mighty in a good old family name;
The name of Evans shineth high upon the scroll of fame;
For nearly all the Evans have pursued a lofty aim.
The Clan goes marching on!

The House of Evans cherishes traditions of the past;
With the world's great movements they have all their fortunes cast;
And when they pledge their honor they are loyal to the last.
The clan goes marching on!

The Evans sons have courage any task or foe to face;
The Evans girls are lovely with their beauty, charm and grace;
The Evans leaven is a blessing to the human race.
The clan goes marching on!

If you claim the blood of Evans join the chorus of the Clan;
In our Records and Reunions - all according to our plan;
The name to highest honors boost it every way you can.
The clan goes marching on!
