Stephen Cantrell was born Abt. 1790 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and died Abt. 1850 in Cannon, Tennessee.  He married Elizabeth Hurd on May 11, 1809 in Grainger, Tennessee.  She was born Abt. 1791 in Grainger, Tennessee, and died in Cannon, Tennessee.

Stephen Cantrell is listed in the North Carolina and Tennessee Land Records and Tax Records for owning land in Cannon County, Tennessee in the years 1836, 1837, 1838, 1839, and 1840.  There were several entries for Stephen Cantrell in the Minute Books of Cannon County were it was stated he was a peddler.
