Lydia J. Smith (January 6, 1820 – November 10, 1879)
William was born June 6, 1816 in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee, the son of Thomas Burkett and Sarah McAdoo. William married Lydia J. (Lidy) Smith in 1840. Lydia was born on January 6, 1820 in Chatham County, North Carolina, the daughter of Benjamin Smith (born circa 1789) and Mary Phillips (born circa 1799).
Census records state that William resided in District 10, Henderson, Tennessee in 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1870. On the 1850 Census records, William and Lydia were neighbors with her parents Benjamin and Mary (Phillips) Smith and Lydia's brother and sister, Greenbury and Eliza. Both William and Benjamin were listed as being farmers.
William died on January 20, 1879 in Henderson and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Lydia died on November 10, 1879 also in Henderson County and is buried beside William. William's will was probated on 2 Feb 1880 in Henderson County, recorded in Administrators Bonds, Vol A, 1861-1899; Insolvent Estates, Vol 1, 1879-1940.
