I now have legal documentation, his Full Pension File - Civil War from the National Archives, that proves John's birth,
death, marriages, children and service in the Civil War. It also contains medical reports that document not only his
health, but his height, weight, and coloring.

MILITARY: Civil War - August 9, 1862 through June 6th, 1865;
111th Illinois Infantry, Co. C., mustered out as Corporal.
               Prisoner of War Records list him as confined at Andersonville, GA, date not given. (vicky's note: Not listed on
                  Andersonville Prison rolls).
To Atlanta, GA Sept 17, 1864; paroled as POW at Rough & Ready, GA Sept 18/22, 1864;
               listed as Prisoner of War on Pension Rolls on Aug. 31, 1864; listed in Medical Records as missing July 22, 1864.
               Mustered out of service with his unit, 111th Illinois, Co. C in Washington D.C. on June 6, 1865.
FEATURES/COMPLEXION: At age 56 years 5 ft. 10 1/4" tall, 160 lbs.
               At age 67 years - height - 5ft. 9 3/4"; weight - 155 lbs.; complexion - florid;
                color of eyes - dark grey; color of hair - grey, black

Frederick W. Songer, who was married to John's sister Mary, also served with the 111th Illinois.
